The Dorset Coast Path Relay is an annual long-distance race which has traditionally been held between orienteering clubs within the South West Orienteering Association. The relay is raced from the Devon-Dorset border at Lyme Regis along the Coast Path (taking the inland route north of Weymouth) all the way to the Sandbanks chain-ferry slip at Shell Bay

Sandbanks Ferry is a vehicular chain ferry which crosses the entrance of Poole Harbour. The route runs from Sandbanks to Studland and in doing so connects the coastal parts of the towns of Bournemouth and Poole with Swanage and the Isle of Purbeck. This avoids a 25 mile journey by road.
