In 1731 Blandford Forum suffered a quite catastrophic fire, which left 480 families homeless.  It was, however, an opportunity to rebuild most of the town.  Without question the jewel in this architectural crown is the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul designed and built by the Bastard brothers, John and William, between 1733 and ’39.

Hambledon Hill is a prehistoric hill fort  situated in the Blackmore Vale five miles north of Blandford Forum. In August 1645 this was the site of a confrontation between Oliver Cromwell and the Clubmen.
