Frost clings to the tops of the hedges in this sunken lane from Toller Porcorum to Hooke, a route I travelled every day by bus on my way to school at Beaminster.

Many Dorset churches are 19th-century rebuilds retaining their 15th-century tower, St. Giles, Hooke, is the opposite: mainly 15th-century with a chancel of 1840 and a tower of 1874.
