The church of the Holy Rood at Buckland Newton is a Gothic structure, with embattled tower, Originally it had 5 bells, and a short lead-covered spire. Today there are 6 and little evidence of a spire.

This is the only Dorset church to be rendered on the exterior. This is to protect the soft rubble construction and to keep the damp out.
