Why does it cost more to hire a hammer at Charmouth than a deck chair?  The answer is that this is fossil country. Of course all the enthusiasts bring their own, but it is not the sort of thing the average tourist packs.

This picture of the recent coastal landslip is taken from Charmouth looking towards Lyme Regis was captioned, ‘after 190 million years in captivity the ammonites return to the sea’, being a reference to the number of fossils found in these cliffs.
